(2024)
Socio-culturalism is in a state of transition. Formerly, people talked about recreational activities and nowadays the term used is socio-culturalism. A great deal needs to be accomplished in the field of work with older people to ensure that socio-culturalism is understood as a way of working and not as something accomplished at a specific moment. This is a very topical subject. Sociocultural work includes all methods of creative activity where joy, experience, meaningfulness, dignity, creativity, authentic encounters, activation, and inclusion play an important role. When an older person is no longer able to communicate verbally, creative methods such as painting, modelling, or dancing can be introduced (Nuutinen 2014, 92-93). This thesis was conducted as a qualitative development activity. Themes related to sociocultural work were identified. These were sociocultural work, development of sociocultural work, sociocultural competence, and cooperation with the third and fourth sector. Open-ended interviews were conducted among residents in a communal housing unit to explore their current preferences and their hopes for the future. Development activity was implemented by interviewing employees at their place of work and the interviews were recorded. The results were analysed using content analysis and thematic analysis based on the interview questions. The employees' results emphasized presence, a sense of security, joy, and genuine encounters in everyday work. It can also be concluded that socio culturalism can be found considerably in everyday work and the most important thing in adopting it is one's own attitude and way of working. Rush, everyday care work and lack of staff resources were perceived as a challenge from perspective of sociocultural work. Music, books, nature, and outdoor activities were highlighted in the results responses of older people. As a development task, a poster was created on sociocultural work, and it could be used in communal housing service units in the Wellbeing Services County of South Ostrobothnia....
